Outdoor plans for families to enjoy and learn, featuring the 8th edition of Hirian and the premiere of Mendian as part of the Bilbao BBK Live lineup.

With the arrival of good weather and longer days, the desire to make the most of family free time multiplies. At BBK, we maintain our commitment to creating spaces where culture, nature, and learning become a shared experience. That is why we are promoting a series of initiatives open to all citizens, designed to strengthen community bonds and offer quality moments, fun, and values in our surroundings.

Magical Stories at the Bilbao Book Fair

Children’s literature is a powerful tool for exploring emotions, strengthening emotional bonds between children and adults, and learning core values that help us build a more conscious society.

During the mornings of the weekends of May 30 and 31, and June 6 and 7, we invite you to come by the Bilbao Book Fair tent to enjoy our Musical Storytelling. This is an interactive experience filled with stories told to live music that will spark the imagination of the whole family.

In addition, to encourage you to keep up the reading habit at home, all families participating in the activities will be able to enter a raffle for 15 packs of values-based children’s books, which will take place on June 8.

  • Saturdays, May 30 and June 6: Shows at 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 1:00 PM at the fair tent (free admission).

  • Sundays, May 31 and June 7: Shows at 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, and 1:30 PM at the fair tent (free admission).

A Space for Games and Fun at Ibilaldia

On Sunday, May 31, we have an unmissable date with the Basque language (euskera) and our culture at Ibilaldia, the festival of the ikastolas (Basque-language schools), organized this year by Kirikiño Ikastola in Bilbao. At BBK, we want children to experience this day in a special way, which is why we will be hosting a recreational space designed exclusively for young audiences.

It will be a dynamic meeting point filled with games and workshops tailored to their needs, where children can have fun and socialize in a safe and participatory environment. It is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our traditions in a purely family-friendly atmosphere.

Mendian: The Premiere of a New Family Experience in Kobetamendi

As part of the special programming for the 20th anniversary of Bilbao BBK Live, on Sunday, June 7, we will premiere Mendian—a daytime, family-oriented, and free-access event taking place at the top of Kobetamendi from 12:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The day invites attendees to rediscover the mountain through active listening with the Kobetamendi Irteera walk, leading into three themed areas in perfect harmony with the environment:

  • Zaborra (Sustainability and art against exclusion): Creativity and recycling go hand in hand in a corner featuring music played with reused objects and toys. It will feature the prominent Cateura Recycled Orchestra—a Paraguayan group that combats social vulnerability through art—accompanied by international performances from Fungistanbul, Trashbeatz, and The Wackids.

  • Komedia (Laughter as an intergenerational link): Humor becomes the ultimate universal language to connect different generations with the witty shows of Grison, Rakel Molina, and Valeria Ros.

  • Orkestra (Symphonic music on the grass): The group Suakai Philharmonic will take classical music out of traditional auditoriums and bring it to the mountain for an interactive symphonic journey. This is an ideal opportunity for families to discover different musical styles while walking freely on the grass.

One Hundred Children’s Voices United at BBKantuz Txiki 2026

On Saturday, June 13 at 12:00 PM at the Plaza de la Convivencia, the third edition of BBKantuz Txiki will take place—a major children’s choral gathering organized alongside the Bilbao Choral Society. The esplanade of the Isozaki Towers will host a hundred young singers from various groups in a celebration open to the public.

This year, the voices of the Children’s Choir, the Formative Choirs, and the Eskolan Kantari socio-educational program of the Bilbao Choral Society will join forces with the Bilbao Musika Children’s Choir and Llura Abesbatza. Under the direction of Maite Olmos, Jose Luis Ormazabal, and Emma López, and with Alberto Sáez Puente on the piano, the groups will perform a repertoire of popular music.

The gathering will conclude with a joint performance by all the choirs on stage, reflecting the power of collaboration and transmitting essential values such as inclusion, respect, and shared joy.
